PROJECT - Community Engagement

PROJECT is an organization dedicated to galvanizing artistic awareness through performance, education and community engagement. We believe that there is a direct correlation between artistry and scholastic achievement. Creativity encourages critical thinking. By combining classical repertoire with elements of hip-hop and popular music, PROJECT engages today’s younger audience.
Our programs have been adapted to meet the National Standards for Music Education. We have specialized curricula for different age groups. Here is a look at some of our programs:

Musical Kaleidoscope: Suite Improvisations
This is a program designed for children K-6. It uses Bach’s Suites for Unaccompanied Cello and new compositions based on those works. We chose Bach’s solo dance suites to emphasize the importance of physical motion and its relevance to popular music. They also provide an excellent introduction to the basic musical concepts of melody, harmony, and improvisation. Suite Improvisations will have an entire classroom of children dancing to the music of Bach.

Hip-Hop Guide to Classical Music

For junior and high school audiences, the Hip-Hop Guide to Classical Music is a journey through the history of Western Music with an emphasis on the works of the great masters Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Stravinsky. Through arrangements and reconstructions of the standard repertoire we can encourage students’ appreciation of these works. This program highlights
aural recognition skills and offers valuable historical context. The Hip-Hop Guide provides relevance for teenagers by bridging the gap between classical and popular music.
PROJECT’s community engagement programs are not exclusively for schools. The content can be tailored for hospitals, nursing homes, and institutions of special education. PROJECT embraces the opportunity to share the joy of musical experience with these audiences. Cultivating artistic awareness and providing access to the performing arts through educational outreach is PROJECT’s vision. We look forward to sharing this vision with you.
